Cone Beam Computed Tomography

Creating your treatment plan starts with providing an accurate diagnosis.

A CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography) is a 3-D x-ray scanner which enables us to take detailed diagnostic images of your mouth and jaw.

This special x-ray equipment produces 3-D images of your teeth, soft tissues, nerve pathways and bone. In one easy scan, the C-arm rotates 360 degrees around your head, capturing multiple images from different angles, producing a 3-dimensional picture.

This provides Dr. Culler with a visual of potential areas of concern (whether symptomatic or not) to develop an accurate and well thought-out treatment plan.

What are some perks of this versus a conventional dental x-ray?

A CBCT scan provides more information than a conventional x-ray. This diagnostic aide provides a view of both bone and soft tissues, thus allowing for more precise treatment planning. With these views, Dr. Culler is able to evaluate diseases of the jaw, teeth, bone structures of the face, nasal cavity and sinuses.

No preparation is necessary before the scan but ensure to remove any metal or jewelry, as this may interfere with imaging. As with any x-ray scan, be sure to let your healthcare provider know if you think you might be pregnant.
